Extended Learning Program

About the Extended Learning Program (ELP)

The Extended Learning Program of the Salt Lake City School District provides instructional services for students in grades K-8 who are identified through a testing and application process as academically gifted and talented. ELP services are available for eligible students at all district elementary and middle schools through a continuum that ranges from general classroom support to full time gifted instruction at a district ELP magnet site.

In general, students who may benefit from this program are working well above their age group in reading and mathematics. Secondary students who may benefit from this program are often those eligible for honors or advanced classes. All students regardless of gender, race, culture, or family income are eligible to be tested for this program.

All elementary and middle schools have neighborhood ELP, and magnet ELP are available at Emerson Elementary School, Hawthorne Elementary School, Whittier Elementary School, Clayton Middle School, Hillside Middle School, and West High School.
